What is your favorite color? For me, it changes as often as every other week – well, maybe that's an exaggeration – but at least once or twice a year. In 2017, everything around me was burnt orange. The rug I bought to warm up our living room when we moved apartments, the tshirt I wore constantly, the terracotta planters I collected, the dried flowers I placed on the coffee table. 2018 was the year of a return to neutrals. I found safety in black as the new black, as well as creams, beiges, and sandy tones. In 2019 I tried on two new favorites. A pale, silvery sage crept in through bundles of greenery from the florist, glazed tile I found at a thrift store, delicate envelopes for a garden party. Late in the summer a breezy pale blue washed over everything like the ocean tide. Bright, fresh paint on both designs and my nails took me to the beach and then slowly turned into a warm coat as I carried blue with me all through winter — until a golden hue made its debut for the start of 2020.
It's about more than just colors I like in the moment. Color holds so much meaning, doesn't it? I wanted 2020 to be a golden year, not just in the hues around me but as a feeling, as a lifestyle, as a magical glittering concept.
These collections trace all the memories I attached to each color. They document how I wove them into the fabric of my life. It may seem silly but I see this as a way to document my years in a visual journal — when I look at a color all the feelings attached to it come rushing back.
